Our Church

Calvary Pentecostal Church is a vibrant, friendly, Christ-centered community.  We are active in reaching out to our neighbours and friends, as we seek to encourage fellowship and build lasting relationships.  It is our desire to promote the gospel message and be a positive and contributing force within our communities.

If you are new to the area or if you’ve not visited before, we’d love to have you drop by.  Here you will find a warm welcome.  If you are searching for answers to some of life’s more perplexing questions (and let’s face it – we all do at some point) consider joining with us as we search and explore together.  Possibly one of our small groups is something you’d find helpful, or maybe it is one of our children’s programs – whatever it might be, we hope you will consider dropping by and meeting us.

 A Brief History

In 1948 a small group of people began meeting together under the leadership of Rev. Mel Holmes from Cobourg.  Services were held in the Orange Hall on John Street, Port Hope.  A church building was erected on Mill Street and we moved into it in June 1950 with our resident pastor Rev. Harry Clarke.

We became affiliated with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada in 1952. Church growth was slow, but steady, and a strong core developed. In 1968 the building on Mill Street was sold and a house/church was built on Wellington Street.  It was dedicated in 1969.  After a few years in that building, a parsonage was purchased on Highland Drive, which freed up the lower area (of the church) for offices and Sunday school rooms.

Due to continued growth, plans were made to relocate to larger facilities, and so in 1985 we began building on Toronto Road.  Dedication services were held in January 1986.  When the Port Hope Area Initiative became interested in that site, we undertook the purchase of the present church property on Croft Street East.  Meetings were held in Beatrice Strong Public School until renovations were complete.  This church site was dedicated in November 2006 and it remains the home of our church family at this time. Our pastoral leadership is currently provided by Rev. Jon Foster.
